St. Michael
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into Hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. Advertise Now

"Jesus' Baptism"

Why did Jesus, the sinless one sent from the Father in heaven, submit himself to John's baptism? John preached a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins (Luke 3:3). In this humble submission we see a foreshadowing of the "baptism" of Jesus bloody death upon the cross. Jesus' baptism is the acceptance and the beginning of his mission as God's suffering Servant (Isaiah 52:13-15; 53:1-12). He allowed himself to be numbered among sinners. Jesus submitted himself entirely to his Father's will. Out of love he consented to this baptism of death for the remission of our sins. Do you know the joy of trust and submission to God? NOVENA OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

"PATRONESS OF THE AMERICAS"
Nihil Obstat: Rev. Msgr. Adrian I. Dwyer
Meditations written by the Rev. Francis M. Vivona, J.C.L.

CONSECRATION TO OUR BLESSED MOTHER

Blessed Virgin Mary of Guadalupe, mother of our Lord Jesus, I call upon you this day to be my special friend here on earth, today and all the days of my life. I ask you to be my special protectress and I place all my thoughts, words and deeds at your feet. I ask you to be my guide and guardian so I may please Jesus in all that I do and say.

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

O, Our Lady of Guadalupe, mystical rose, make intercession for Holy Church, protect the Sovereign Pontiff, help all those who invoke thee in their necessities, and since thou art the ever Virgin Mary and Mother of the true God, obtain for us from thy most holy Son the grace of keeping our faith, sweet hope in the midst of the bitterness of life, burning charity and the precious gift of final perseverance. Amen.

FIRST DAY: THE VIRGIN’S NAME WAS MARY

Scripture Reading: “In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the House of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.” Luke 1:26-28

Prayer: Sometimes the messages God sends into my life are difficult to hear: sickness, death of a loved one, finding a new job, separation from family and many others.

Holy Mother of God, who had the joy to be visited by an angel pray for me, so that with your help I can imitate you and accept any message God sends into my life.

Pause for Personal Meditation:

Our Father … Hail Mary … Glory Be … Virgin Mother of Guadalupe, pray for me who have recourse to you, and obtain from your son Jesus what I ask of you!

SECOND DAY: THE LORD IS WITH YOU

Scripture Reading: “He went in and said to her, ‘Rejoice, so highly favored! The Lord is with you.’” Luke 1:28-29

Prayer: I often feel alone and need the consolation to know, as you were told, that God is always with me. I need to know this when I cannot see my way clear through my problems.

THIRD DAY: SHE WAS DISTURBED

Scripture Reading: “She was deeply disturbed by these words and asked herself what this greeting could mean.” Luke 1:29-30

Prayer: Like you, I am often disturbed at what happens in my life. I sometimes cannot accept what is happening in the world around me. I grow older, lose patience, do not see myself growing in knowledge and holiness, seemed to be involved in relationships that are a burden and, most of all, I find it difficult to change.

Holy mother of God, you had the joy to be visited by an angel, pray for me, so that with your help I can imitate you and accept the grace God sends in to my life to deal with all my problems.

FOURTH DAY: DO NOT BE AFRAID

Scripture Reading: “The angel said to her, Mary, do not be afraid; you have won God’s favor.” Luke 1:30-31

Prayer: Like you, Holy Mother, who became afraid at the message you heard, I often am afraid that I will not have enough money to feed myself. I am afraid that often I cannot pay my bills, I am afraid that I will lose my job, I am afraid I will be alone and most of all I am afraid that I will not do God’s will in my life.

Holy mother of God, who had the joy to be visited by an angel pray for me, so that with your help I can imitate you and accept the grace God sends into my life not to fear and to deal with all my problems.

FIFTH DAY: HOW CAN THIS BE?

Scripture Reading: “Mary said to the angel, “But how can this come about, since I am a virgin?’” Luke 1:34-35

Prayer: I often wonder how can things go so wrong. I try to do my best to help other, in my family, in the Word, and through friends and it never seems to turn out as I plan. I need to do more planning and working with those I seek to help.

Holy mother of God, who had the joy to be visited by an angel pray for me, so that with your help I can imitate you and accept the grace God sends into my life to serve others and to deal with all my problems.

Scripture Reading: “Know this too: your kinswoman Elizabeth has, in her old age, herself conceived a son, and she whom people called barren is now in her sixth month, for nothing is impossible with God.” Luke 1:36-38

Prayer: Holy mother of God, when you came to Mount Tepeyec, it seemed impossible that the Indians would ever be respected and free from oppression. Help me to be free from all my slavery to bad habits and sins, for nothing is impossible with God’s help.

Prayer: On Mount Tepeyec you chose Juan to be your ambassador. He became your servant and did as you asked. Help me to make my life copy yours that I may be the servant of God in all things. Teach me to put in second place the material goods of this earth. Help me to put my life in the order that God wants of me!

Holy mother of God, who had the joy to be visited by an angel pray for me, so that with your help I can imitate you and accept the grace God sends into my life to free me from all attachment to material things and to deal with all my problems.

Prayer: blessed Virgin of Guadalupe, when you appeared on Mount Tepeyec, you brought hope to the Indians. Help me to teach others the value of human life. Help me to value those I meet who are elderly, need assistance, the sick, the disabled, and most of all assist those who carry the unborn. Let my spirit always be willing to help others, most of all be my prayers.

Help me to accept the blessed gift of God’s word in my life and make me a true example to His disciples as you were.
