“PATRONESS OF THE AMERICAS”
Nihil Obstat: Rev. Msgr. Adrian I. Dwyer
Meditations written by the Rev. Francis M. Vivona, J.C.L.

CONSECRATION TO OUR BLESSED MOTHER

Blessed Virgin Mary of Guadalupe, mother of our Lord Jesus, I call upon you this day to be my special friend here on earth, today and all the days of my life. I ask you to be my special protectress and I place all my thoughts, words and deeds at your feet. I ask you to be my guide and guardian so I may please Jesus in all that I do and say.

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

O, Our Lady of Guadalupe, mystical rose, make intercession for Holy Church, protect the Sovereign Pontiff, help all those who invoke thee in their necessities, and since thou art the ever Virgin Mary and Mother of the true God, obtain for us from thy most holy Son the grace of keeping our faith, sweet hope in the midst of the bitterness of life, burning charity and the precious gift of final perseverance. Amen.

FIRST DAY: THE VIRGIN’S NAME WAS MARY

Scripture Reading: “In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the House of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.” Luke 1:26-28

Prayer: Sometimes the messages God sends into my life are difficult to hear: sickness, death of a loved one, finding a new job, separation from family and many others.

Holy Mother of God, who had the joy to be visited by an angel pray for me, so that with your help I can imitate you and accept any message God sends into my life.

Pause for Personal Meditation:

Our Father … Hail Mary … Glory Be … Virgin Mother of Guadalupe, pray for me who have recourse to you, and obtain from your son Jesus what I ask of you!

SECOND DAY: THE LORD IS WITH YOU

Scripture Reading: “He went in and said to her, ‘Rejoice, so highly favored! The Lord is with you.’” Luke 1:28-29

REFLECTIONS

“Jesus’ Baptism”

Why did Jesus, the sinless one sent from the Father in heaven, submit himself to John’s baptism? John preached a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins (Luke 3:3). In this humble submission we see a foreshadowing of the “baptism” of Jesus bloody death upon the cross. Jesus’ baptism is the acceptance and the beginning of his mission as God’s suffering Servant (Isaiah 52:13-15; 53:1-12). He allowed himself to be numbered among sinners. Jesus submitted himself entirely to his Father’s will. Out of love he consented to this baptism of death for the remission of our sins. Do you know the joy of trust and submission to God?
