Holy Father Agrees G-8 on Middle East Cusp

“I am
in complete agreement with the communiqué of the G-8. I think
it indicates the path.", says Pope Benedict XVI recently and
asked all believers to pray for peace to put end on the crisis in
Middle East.
It can be noted
that G-8 Leaders gathered in St. Petersburg, Russia approved a statement
on July 16 which appeals to Israel, to the Palestinians and to the
Hezbollah militia to suspend their armed operations and release
the captured soldiers and detained Palestinian ministers and parliamentarians.
The Pope just
returned from a visit to the convent on the Great Saint Bernard
mountain the Alps when a journalist that awaited for him near the
chalet where he is residing asked him what must the international
community do in this increasing tragic situation.
He added, "I
have nothing to add, other than to recall the importance of prayer
so that God will help us and grant us peace”, a reported by
Salvatore Mazza, special envoy of the Italian newspaper Avvenire.
“At the
origin of these cruel oppositions there are, sadly, objective situations
of violation of law and justice.”, the Pope also stated when
praying the Angelus in Les Combes, the village where he is spending
these days of rest, on Sunday morning. He added, "But neither
terrorist acts nor reprisals, above all when there are tragic consequences
for the civilian population, can be justified. On such paths --
as bitter experience demonstrates -- one does not arrive at positive
results”.
As of today,
Vatican newspaper front page laments the main victims with the suffering
children who are the main victims of the of the Middle East conflict.
