Vatican States on Holy
Land Strife
Pope
Benedict VXI is close in a very special way with prayer to all the
people of the Holy Land which have been going through a bloodied
strife.
In
a communiqué in Italian Joaquin Navarro Valls, Director of
the Vatican press office, stated: "The Holy Father is close,
in a special way with prayer, to the innocent victims, their relatives
and the peoples of that land, hostages of all those who have the
illusion of being able to resolve the ever more dramatic problems
of the region through force or in a unilateral way."
Below
is a translation of the Vatican.
The
Holy See follows with great alarm and grief the incidents of growing,
blind violence that bloody the Holy Land these days. The Holy Father
is close, especially with prayer, to innocent victims, their relatives
and the peoples of that land, hostages of all those who have the
illusion of being able to resolve the ever more dramatic problems
of the region through force or unilaterally.
The
Holy See appeals to the international community to rapidly activate
the means necessary for humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian
population, and associates itself in urging leaders of both peoples
to observe above all due respect for human life, especially that
of defenseless civilians and children, and that the path of negotiation
be resumed with courage, which is the only path that can lead to
the just and lasting peace to which all aspire.
